PRE-CLINICAL STUDIES
Research begins long before a product is designed, at the pre-clinical stage. Scientists with backgrounds ranging from biochemistry and microbiology to pharmacology and molecular biology work together using cell culture and laboratory analysis tools to identify new activities from natural products.

INGREDIENT EVALUATION
Every Metagenics formula – often the first of its kind on the market – represents the latest in nutritional science and is comprised of only the highest quality ingredients to support health. Ingredients are selected based on purity, bioavailability, and biochemical activity. Each Metagenics formula undergoes extensive review by the staff of clinicians and scientists to ensure that it reflects current nutritional research.

SAFETY ASSESSMENT
Before a new ingredient is approved for use in a new or existing Metagenics product, it must first be assessed for safety. Each Metagenics formula is reviewed by our team of scientists and clinicians to ensure that they consist of the safest ingredients.

Several factors are considered in the determination of safety of an ingredient:

• A history of safe use of the ingredient.
• Regulatory status of the specific preparation of the ingredient.
• Recent adverse event reports involving the ingredient or its parent food/botanical.
• Recent scientific articles demonstrating the mechanism and/or toxicity of the ingredient.
• Short-term taste and tolerance clinical trials and/or animal toxicology studies on selected products.

HUMAN CLINICAL STUDIES
The clinical research arm of Metagenics, The Functional Medicine Research Center ^sm (FMRC), comprises an expert team of medical and naturopathic doctors, chiropractors, and nutritionists, who are familiar with the latest developments in testing and treatment in natural medicine therapies.

Aside from the raw ingredients, the single most important component of a nutritional formula is the way it is processed. At Metagenics, we recognize this and take great measures to ensure the quality and safety of our products. Each step of the manufacturing process is closely monitored, in compliance with GMP guidelines, and we substantiate each of our product claims with reputable scientific research. Raw Material Inspection
One of the most important steps in developing great nutritional formulas is starting with excellent raw materials. At Metagenics, we use only high-quality, safe, raw materials. We demand a great deal from our raw material vendors. We ask tough questions and require certified documents with each shipment. Metagenics inspects all raw materials to detect any unacceptable materials. Before we even consider the materials for processing it is common for us to send raw materials to an independent lab for further testing.

Automated Processing
Many of the machines used in the manufacturing process are automated. But, as an aspect of quality control, they are monitored at all times to ensure the highest level of quality.
