SCREENING INGREDIENTS FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS Objective:Identify the most effective ingredients for a specific clinical application through extensive in vitro testing performed at Metagenics' MetaProteomics™ Research Center.
EXPRESSYN CELL PROTEOMIC RESEARCH STUDIES THE EFFECT OF NATURAL INGREDIENTS ON THE GENETIC EXPRESSION OF PROTEINS
First, we add natural ingredients to an in vitro cell-culture system. Then (through various tests), we look at their impact on genetic expression and biochemical activity by observing changes in cell protein production/activity.
Step 1
Introduce selected nutrient factors into cell culture.
Nutrient factors may be introduced individually or in combinations.
Cell Culture
The known production/activity profile of specific cells acts as a baseline from which changes can be observed.
Step 2
Analyze changes in cell
protein production/activity.
Our research scientists and clinicians, who are among the world's leading experts in natural product research, evaluate the suitabilitiy of thousands of potential natural ingredients for inclusion in a formula.
After paring down the candidates, hundreds of ingredients with a history of safe use are screened in a target cell-culture system (e.g., macrophages) to identify those with the greatest potential for beneficial results.
Select candidates are re-screened in other target-cell lines (e.g., pulmonary endothelial, etc.) to confirm activity. This way we can determine what an ingredient will do in target tissues for a desired clinical outcome.
