60 Minutes Expose
The “Achilles-Heal” of Supplement Industry
Do your products contain what they say they do?
On a recent
edition of the television program 60 Minutes (May 6, 2001), a well-known doctor,
writer, and educator was put in an awkward position during an interview.
It was revealed that the professional nutrition companies this particular
doctor recommended to his patients produced supplements that did
not contain the nutrient levels expressed on their labels.
In fact, some of the supplements analyzed only contained 50 percent
of the label claim.
Of all the
efforts that a company undertakes, the most important may be quality
control. In the health industry, effective quality control is essential
because people are relying on these products to improve their health.
When a product contains lower nutrient levels than stated on the label,
it is evident that quality control procedures are failing.
As a
Health Sciences Company, Metagenics is diligent about quality and
concerned about your patient's health.
Recent press
about nutritional products not meeting label claim (60 Minutes,
Consumer Labs, Consumer Reports), may have raised concerns among your
patients. Metagenics' products meet label claim and we will help you
prove it. We conduct in-house and third party formula assays to ensure
product quality.
Often our
formulas exceed label claims to ensure they will meet label claims
at expiration. We are happy to supply copies of those assays to our
customers. Additionally, we have prepared a letter for you to use with
your patients to convey confidence and answer their questions regarding
the quality of Metagenics' products.
If you are
interested in this letter or copies of the assays, please contact us.
Thank you
for choosing Metagenics as your nutritional supplier. We are working
hard to justify your trust and continuously endeavor to exceed your
expectations. Should you have any questions related to this or any
other Metagenics related issue, please call our Technical Services
Department at 800-692-9400.
